The area around 285 Whittenton St. was closed and residents were advised to seek alternative routes , police said in a social media post just after 7:30 p.m.
Officers called for a medical helicopter shortly after arriving at Whittenton Street, the statement said. The driver of the vehicle that struck the child remained at the scene and gave a statement to police. Police did not release the names of the child or the driver.
