The National Geographic Museum of Exploration invites you to become an explorer
Throughout the museum, you’ll meet — via displays, videos, artifacts, and more — many other National Geographic Explorers and learn what sparked their curiosity and led to their discoveries and creations. The National Geographic Museum of Exploration, a four-year $300 million transformation at its headquarters in Washington, D.C., opened on June 26. The 100,000-square-foot museum features one-of-a-kind curated exhibitions, immersive experiences, photography, and a state-of theart theater designed to inspire explorers. The Pavilion, the museum's entrance, central hub, and gateway to two floors of exhibits, features a 45-foot oculus skylight surrounded by curvy, sloping wood walls, and historic relics and artifacts. The wood used for the Pavilion's creative walls and ceilings was sourced from a fourth-generation sugar maple farm in the Saco Valley of New Hampshire. The museum's new Ballard Bar is named after Dr. Robert Ballard.
