Some areas in Mass. see several inches of snow during April nor'easter

In one town, tree limbs came down onto power lines that wound up sparking a fire that led to a road closure. Some areas in Massachusetts saw several inches of snow during April nor'easter. The article discusses the dangers of the storm in HUBBARDSTON, where some residents are without power due to power lines lighting up their trees. The author points out that the snow and ice budget is the only money that Massachusetts can legally spend in Deficit. Despite the inconvenience, this year's weather made it easier for small rural communities to deal with the heavy snowfall. The story also includes several incidents involving tree limbs coming down onto power lines, which led to a fire and a road closure.

COAST THERE’S ALWAYS CONCERN ABOUT HIGH TIDE WELL INLAND FOLKS ARE JUST REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN APRIL. IT’S NOT WARM ENOUGH TO BE OUTSIDE WITH A MAI TAI. TAKE A LOOK AT ALL THE SNOW. YOU REALLY NEEDED THIS IN HUBBARDSTON BEFORE 730 AT DAYBREAK, NEARLY FIVE INCHES OF SNOW. SORRY TIM, IT WAS SNOWING WHEN WE FIRST GOT HERE, BUT LOOK, THE WINDS AT LEAST HAVE DIED DOWN. WE RAN OUT OF POWER AND I BURNED A LOT OF FIREWOOD AND STUFF LIKE THAT. MIX IT BETWEEN OIL AND WOOD. YOU KNOW, YOU’RE A SURVIVOR. I YEAH, I AM A SURVIVOR. THE SNOW IN HUBBARDSTON IS BOTH VERY PRETTY AND PRETTY DANGEROUS DUE TO THE POWER LINES THAT ARE LIGHTING TREES ON FIRE. THIS IS FROM HUBBARDSTON FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDING ON BARRY ROAD. SOME RESIDENTS ARE WITHOUT POWER. THOSE FEW ROADS THAT WE HAVE HAD, HAD THE TREES COME DOWN ARE WITHOUT POWER. BUT MOST OF THE TOWN STILL HAS POWER RIGHT NOW. HOW MASSACHUSETTS WORKS IS YOUR SNOW AND ICE BUDGET IS THE ONLY BUDGET THAT YOU CAN LEGALLY SPEND IN DEFICIT. WE DIDN’T HAVE TO DO THAT THIS YEAR, AND THERE WAS SOME FUNDING LEFT OVER, SO WE’LL BE IN A GOOD SPOT. BUT SMALL RURAL COMMUNITIES ARE NEVER IN A AMAZING SPOT. THE SNOW IS HEAVY AND WET AND TREE CREWS WILL HAVE A LONG NIGHT CLEARING BLOCKED STREETS LIKE LOMBARDO ROAD. THE APRIL 4TH SNOW MEANT SCHOOL WAS OFF AND THAT THE PLOW BLADES STAY ON. IT WAS REALLY A SOFT WINTER, WHICH REALLY RAISES HAVOC ON THE ROADS AND BEATS THEM UP, BEATS UP THE VEHICLES AND THE PLOWS BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, IT’S IT’S A LOT BETTER WHEN THINGS ARE FROZEN. UH, IT’S A LOT EASIER ON EQUIPMENT. WE’RE ABOUT 70 MILES NORTHWEST OF BOSTON, AND BOY, IT WAS LIKE SOMEONE FLIPPED THE SWITCH DRIVING HERE, SLUSHY ROADS. THE GOOD NEWS. LOOK HOW BIG A SNOWMAN BALL YOU CAN MAKE. SO KIDS OUT THERE, YOU CAN GET BUSY BEFORE IT REALLY FREEZES UP. IT’S GOING TO GET COOLER. WE’RE LIVE IN HUBBARDSTON. RHON
