The program provides “last-mile service” which bridges the gap between existing transit stops and residential neighborhoods. Funding is provided through an approximately $11.5 million federal grant from the Federal Highway Administration’s Congestion Relief Program, distributed by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The data analysis will aid outreach for alternative funding such as state grants or collaboration with private institutions. The new routes aim to connect people with jobs, medical appointments, grocery shopping and bring these neighborhoods together.
