Disability claims have shot up. It’s time for verification.

Enough with the TikTokers demanding accommodation for their ‘neurodivergence.’ They’ve built a culture that’s hurting those most in need. The National Center for Educational Statistics has reported that over one in five American undergraduates now report that they're disabled, with the rate increasing by over 50 percent in a decade. At Harvard, the share of students receiving disability accommodations rose from 3% in 2014 to 21% in 2024. The Department of Labor is set to begin annual reviews of its employees' disability accommodations, requiring employees to prove their need for accommodation. This change is seen as a significant increase in requests for disability accommodations. The costs of these new accommodations can be high, and colleges and employers risk costly lawsuits and reputational damage. The rise in requests is directly attributable to a 2012 lawsuit alleging that LSAC’s standards for securing accommodations were too stringent. The LSAT, the organization that runs the LSAT exams, admits that it grants 99 percent of accommodation requests, up from 46 percent just 15 years ago.
