Inside three creative businesses in Connecticut’s Quiet Corner
With handcrafted ice cream and historic lodging, Alamode Café and the Watson Boutique Inn invite travelers to savor small-town New England life. In Thompson, Connecticut, two local businesses, Alamode Café and the Watson Boutique Bed and Breakfast, are turning passion into purpose. The owners, Dave Anderson and Christina Donatelli Anderson, originally from Victoria Station, moved their business to a cozy café originally intended for pie and ice cream. The menu features croissants, breads, sandwiches and grab-and-go meals, with homemade ice cream being the main ingredient. Artist Randy Burt, a chainsaw carver, has created over 5,000 sculptures and has attracted attention from NFL legend Adam Vinatieri. Beth and Scott Hume also run the Watson boutiqueique Bed & Breakfast, a restored 1767 farmhouse once owned by Samuel Watson.
