Brazil’s Flávio Bolsonaro leaves Brazil for the United States, according to multiple media reports

Bolsonaro’s decision to leave Brazil came as a deadline for him to surrender his regular and diplomatic passports expired. Brazil's former presidential candidate, Flávio Bolsonaro, has reportedly left Brazil for the United States following his loss to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the country's election. Bolsonario, who has a close relationship with US President Trump, was convicted in absentia in June of illegally lobbying the Trump administration and sentenced to four years in prison. His brother, Eduardo Bolsonar, had encouraged him to leave Brazil if he lost the election. The deadline for Bolsonara to surrender his regular and diplomatic passports expired at noon Tuesday. Despite initially asking for the election results to be annulled, Bolsonao has made unsubstantiated allegations of election fraud. He is also under investigation by Brazil's Supreme Court for alleged corruption, money laundering and tax evasion in two cases.
