Salem’s maritime history is alive in this 1768 town home for $500k

Captain Edward Allen built this Georgian-style home located near the famous House of Seven Gables. The first National Park in US history was established at Pickering Wharf in 1938, and the current owner, an amateur painter, has used three walls as the canvas for murals of rural scenery in the 18th-century style. The home, now a four-unit building, has seen minimal cosmetic change over its centuries. Unit D is 1,416 square feet and occupies portions of the second and third floors. The main entry on the second floor opens to the 196-square-foot living room, where Colonial facets are found. The third floor is given over to the primary suite where the link to the Colonial era and the city's maritime history is most apparent.
