A US cruise ship ends a global voyage in Asia due to fuel costs and 200 passengers lose their homes

The Odyssey set sail two years ago on a three-year voyage to the seven continents marketed as combining long-term living at sea with global travel. A US cruise ship, the Odyssey, has ended its global voyage in Cambodia due to fuel costs, leading to 200 passengers losing their homes. The Florida-based Villa Vie Residences, which is on a three-year global voyage, said monthly fuel expenses per cabin have increased from $1,800 to $8,000 during the Iran war. The company attempted to reduce fuel consumption by slowing the itinerary and spending more time in port but was unable to offset the surge in fuel costs. The ship had a capacity of 650 residents and had a confirmed itinerary into November 2027. The cruise ship docked on Sihanoukville Autonomous Port on Oct. 23 for a five-day visit, but remained in the port Wednesday.
