Make a broom in Salem or build a project at a Cape Cod maker space
A Salem broom-making class and South Dennis’ SoupStone Workshop invite visitors and residents to learn hands-on skills and create something themselves The workshops in Salem, Massachusetts, and South Dennis, Cape Cod, offer hands-on learning opportunities for people to make things themselves. In Salem, a broom-making instructor, Samantha, leads visitors through a workshop where they choose a wooden handle, colors, and bind their own broom by hand. The class also includes charms and natural elements to give each broom a personal meaning. SoupStone Workshop, a nonprofit community workshop opened in 2026, offers wood and metalworking equipment, classes, and space for members to share skills. Founder Scott Newman started the space after moving to Cape Cod and finding no nearby community workshops. The space welcomes experienced craftspeople and beginners, with safety training required for some equipment.
