Boston Police have arrested a man accused of peeping into apartments in Brighton and trying to enter one.

Francis Gomez, 38, of Brighton was arrested on warrants stemming from two separate incidents that occurred on Donnybrook Road and Beechcroft Street, police said.

Officers are “very familiar” with Gomez, according to a police report. He has a history of breaking and entering, trespassing, and “peeping Tom” offenses.

“It appears that suspect Gomez, when active, has been escalating in criminal activity and tends to target female victims,” Boston Police wrote in a report.

A resident of Donnybrook Road told police that, on March 17 at around 2:30 a.m., she looked outside her window and saw a person walking quickly back and forth, staring “intently” at the window of her ground-floor apartment. She then heard someone come up onto the building’s porch and the outside doorknob “jiggling,” according to a report.

The resident dropped to the floor to avoid being seen, but soon after she heard someone coming down the stairs from the building’s second-floor apartment to leave. She and a roommate turned on an outside light and looked around the building, but did not see anyone. She gave police a description of the person she saw pacing on the sidewalk. Police obtained security footage from a home across the street that showed a man matching the resident’s description of who tried to break in. They identified the man as Gomez, according to the report.

Just before 3 a.m. on March 17, police responded to a report of a “prowler” on Beechcroft Street. A resident there told officers that she saw an unknown man outside her first-floor kitchen window walking alongside a fence with a flashlight on. She initially thought this was a next-door neighbor looking for something in their yard, but then saw the man looking into one of her windows and called police, according to a report. Officers did not find a suspect, but did find a plastic chair in the driveway directly outside the caller’s window. She told police that it did not belong to her and should not have been there.

Surveillance video from the Beechcroft Street scene showed the same suspect that was observed on Donnybrook road. That suspect, identified as Gomez, could be seen milling around the area and looking through windows before grabbing a chair from another residence and carrying it to the home of the resident who called police, according to a report.

In the recent reports, officers reference an incident in 2022, where Gomez was accused of breaking into a residence on Gardena Street. A resident said she went to the bathroom at night and saw a man in her kitchen who quickly ran out of the house, according to a report. Police pursued Gomez, who fled briefly before being arrested.

Officers recovered “burglarious tools” like a screwdriver, pliers, and gloves from him. As they booked him, they recovered “a used condom tied with semen inside,” according to a report. There were no allegations of sexual assault.

In February 2023, Gomez was arrested for allegedly breaking into an apartment on Faneuil Street in Brighton and stealing $200. That case was dismissed in December.
