This Wareham company ships kits for building your own sports car
Factory Five Racing estimates a typical car build takes about 300 hours, with builders supplying their own engine and transmission. Factory Five Racing in Wareham, Massachusetts, has been shipping kits for DIY car building kits and assembling high-performance cars since 1995. The company uses computer-controlled machines to produce precision components for its kits, which include Cobra replicas, Daytona Coupes, and other high-performing designs. Instead of shipping a completed car, Factory Five sends customers the pieces needed to build one, including a body, frame, and boxes containing about 4,500 parts. The firm ships roughly 500 kits a year to customers worldwide, with an average build taking around 300 hours. Founder and CEO David Smith says the goal is to provide builders with more than just a finished vehicle.
