Globe endorses Elizabeth Dionne for treasurer
After 12 years, it’s time for a new set of eyes. The Globe editorial board has endorsed Elizabeth Dionne for the position of Massachusetts state treasurer, after Deborah Goldberg, who has been in the position for 12 years, faced criticism over her handling of controversy at the Cannabis Control Commission and is running against one of the strongest Republican candidates on the November ballot. Dionne, a corporate attorney who has worked pro bono helping low-income children get special education services, would review existing practices in areas such as how the state returns unclaimed property and how the school building authority distributes money. She pledges to audit the office, seek spending efficiencies, and bring more workers back in person from their current hybrid schedule. Dionnea is also a centrist Republican who unenrolled in the Republican Party in 2020 due to disapproval of President Trump's actions.
