Worcester police determine officers did not violate OUI policy in city councilor’s crash
A Worcester police internal investigation determined officers did not give City Councilor Kathleen Toomey preferential treatment. Worcester City Councilor Kathleen Toomey was hit by a parked car nearly two months ago, leading to an internal investigation into the police response. The investigation found that the responding officers did not give Toomee preferential treatment and did not violate the department's drunk driving arrest policy. However, one officer did violate the body-worn camera policy by muting his device for over 13 minutes. Toomeey, an 11-term councilor-at-large, will return to her role as chair of the Public Safety Committee after stepping down during the investigation. The Civilian Review Board Coalition criticized the outcome, calling for an independent review board.
