Trump calls it ‘Trash Island.’ For some golfers, East Potomac is an oasis.

The president has vowed to close the affordable public golf course on November for 15 months to championship-caliber golf destination. President Trump has proposed transforming East Potomac Golf Links into a championship-caliber golf destination, which he believes could one day host a US Open or Ryder Cup. However, the plan is currently entangled in a federal court case involving the National Park Service cutting down hundreds of trees. A federal judge has barred further tree removal until Oct. 26. The course's future is uncertain as regulars worry that rebuilding it to attract major tournaments could become too expensive. US District Judge Ana Reyes has questioned the administration's rationale for cutting the trees before finalizing plans for the renovation. Some golfers believe an 18-hole round still costs less than a box of balls.
