A Boston-area man who is an alleged member of the violent Heath Street gang was sentenced last week to six and a half years in federal prison after he posted photos of himself with a gun on Snapchat while under house arrest for three state firearm charges, the US attorney’s office said. Trevon Bell, 27, of Boston and Lynn, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm in November, the US attorney’s office said in a statement Monday. He was sentenced to 78 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

Attorneys for Bell could not immediately be reached for comment Monday night. Authorities were investigating the gang in 2021 when they intercepted a Snapchat group conversation in which Bell and others routinely shared photos of themselves posing with guns, prosecutors said. At the time, Bell had been indicted in state court on three separate cases of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and was released on home detention and required to wear a GPS bracelet, prosecutors said. Investigators determined that while he was on state pre-trial release, Bell had posted numerous videos of himself with guns to Snapchat. The posts included a Nov. 24, 2021, video that showed Bell in possession of a black semi-automatic Glock 9 millimeter pistol, prosecutors said. The gun has since been recovered.
