An ocean liner, a typewriter display, a ‘bounce juggler.’ These are some of the coolest treasures at New England museums.

How's this for special: a 22-foot-long, 2,700-pound, intricately detailed model of the Queen Elizabeth ocean liner? In our weekly series, the Globe arts staff highlights some of the coolest treasures at New England museums. These include an ocean liner, a typewriter display, and a ‘bounce juggler’ currently on display in a New England museum. The model of the Cunard ocean liner Queen Elizabeth, owned by the Peabody Essex Museum, is 22 feet long, weighs 2,700 pounds, and was carved from a single 6-ton piece of mahogany. Other notable exhibits include a display of Claude Shannon's inventions, a computer that used Roman numerals, a machine for figuring out Rubik’s Cube, and waterproof shoes that let the wearer literally walk on water. The Museum of Fine Arts also displays rare typewriters.
