Is AI undermining our ability to think?
Two ways of thinking about AI: Yes it could hurt our ability to think. But it is a powerful tool as well. While I share some of Rebecca Spiess's concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) undermining our ability to think, I believe that tools like Google search can be used with discretion to enhance creativity. An AI application, Microsoft Copilot, helped me organize a book I had written, which was easier and faster than hiring professional editors who could not handle the editing process. Copilot answered specific questions about ordering paragraphs, linking sections, and so forth without needing a professional editor. The author also notes that while GPS has taken away the ability to navigate on our own, it also aids those who are directionally challenged.
