You don't need mountains for peak fall foliage. Where to go in MA instead

As the fall foliage season continues, peak colors are spreading to the suburbs and coast. Here's where Yankee Magazine recommends leaf-peeping. Peak fall colors are already reaching a high in Massachusetts, with a vibrant display of warm oranges and reds over the month of October. According to Yankee Magazine foliage expert Jim Salge, there is no need to head to the mountains for spectacular autumn scenery. Instead, Salge recommends a leaf-peeping trip outside of Boston for the weekend of Oct. 23-25. He recommends visiting Mount Auburn Cemetery, an 1831 garden cemetery and arboretum with "winding paths, peaceful ponds, and an extraordinary collection of trees" in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Other spots include the South Shore, the Pioneer Valley, the Quabbin Reservoir, Salem and Cape Cod's cranberry bogs. According, according to Yankee magazine's Peak Fall Foliage Map, Massachusetts will see the most vibrant oranges and Reds in mid to late October before fall colors fade out in early November.
