At the Women’s Lunch Place, Theresa Rolley helps middle-aged women find their way out of crisis
She knows what it is to be a survivor, and she empowers others to believe in themselves. Theresa Rolley, a peer recovery and empowerment coach at the Women's Lunch Place day shelter in Boston, has been leading twice weekly group therapy sessions for middle-aged women for nearly three years. The sessions, which include an average of 20 participants, are designed to support vulnerable older women, a group that often gets lost in the system. Rolleys' sessions also provide an opportunity for women seeking services at the shelter to find community. The group's executive director, Jennifer Hanlon Wigon, credits Rolle's role in these sessions with helping them successfully guide 400 women through its housing stabilization program. Over 95 percent of these women who receive such housing remain in their homes.
