70K Eastern MA Residents To Get Medical Debt Relief: See Whose Bills Might Get Erased
The nonprofit Atrius Health Equity Foundation said it is clearing $38 million in medical debt through the independent process. The Atrius Health Equity Foundation has announced that 70,000 Eastern Massachusetts residents will be eligible for medical debt relief. The program is designed for low- and moderate-income residents who have medical debt that is 5% or more of their annual income or earn at or below four times the federal poverty limit. The Foundation has eliminated over $293 million in debt since 2024. The debt relief was made possible through a partnership between the Foundation and the national nonprofit Undue Medical Debt. Patients will receive envelopes in the mail informing them that some or all of their medical debt is being erased. There is no application process, and future debt relief is only the debts acknowledged in the letter.
