Mount Holyoke isn’t shying away from Trump’s forbidden subjects

The women’s college in Western Mass. has lost research funding in the culture war. Its president hopes supporters will more than make up the difference. Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, has launched what Danielle Holley, the school's president, believes is the largest fundraising campaign in women's college history, aiming to raise $650 million over the next several years. The college, which started in 1837 as a female seminary, has lost $6 million in research funding from the federal government and private foundations since early 2025. Holley is relying on alumni and supporters of women's education to contribute to the fundraising drive. The donations will be used to make the college more affordable for students from low- and middle-income families. The campaign will also support faculty research and teaching, replacing funding that has been cut.
